I am updating the original post from January 2020 because EVERYTHING has changed now! I am publishing this now on March 21. In January everything was lining up to be one of the most amazing years yet, full of high adventure and travel. 2020 was going to be good! BUT all of that has taken a sudden turn and the world is turned upside down, nothing is certain. now!
Who knows what the river schedule (or life for that matter) will be now? The COVID-19 Pandemic was announced on March 11, 2020. It has take a hold of the world and turned it on its side, upside down, shaken and rattled loose. So obviously everything is in a state of change.
This is what was planned to happen for 2020. The Pre-Pandemic schedule was:
April to August: Return to job as a BLM River Ranger on the Wild & Scenic Rogue River in southern Oregon. On the Rogue this summer? come by and say hi!
August to October: Expeditions on the Rio Maranon in northern PERU, as well as hiking and touring adventures to Pre-Incan ruins, magnificent waterfalls in the cloud forest and exploring the ancient Inca Road. Many boaters are going to be joining me this year on the Maranon, but often there is room for one more. Drop me a note for more information about how to join our groups in northern PERU!
November: Heading to the Pucon area of CHILE to explore the future possibilities of running our “International Catarafts” in that part of the world.
December to January: We return to ECUADOR and our “International Catarafts”. You can rent a cataraft from us or bring your own small whitewater boat (shredder, kayak, IK, small cat, etc.). ECUADOR is a boater’s paradise! I look forward to returning every year. Join us in the shared adventure!
February 2021: Chiapas, MEXICO. Adventures to be had on the Rio Lacanja and some other little known rivers and ruins surrounding Palenque. Please contact me for details.
That was the plan, but who knows what will happen now? We are living in unprecedented times – A World Pandemic! a strain of the Corona Virus called COVID-19 has infected the world. As I write this (3/21/20) I am at my home in California adhering to the “Shelter-in-Place” government orders. Next week the curve of infections will go up – we will see what happens next?
